As Ottawa Tourism prepared to attend the International Indigenous Tourism Conference (IITC) in Winnipeg in early 2023, the organization learned that it would be hosting the event the following winter. To showcase the region and Indigenous business owners, and to invite IITC members to the 2024 conference, Ottawa Tourism reached out to Spruce to write and produce a short promotional video.
Working under a tight timeline, our two teams collaborated with an Indigenous guide and narrator to develop a humbling and exciting one-minute script and storyboard. Over the course of two days, Spruce visited Indigenous businesses, organizations and arts and cultural sites to highlight and honour the region’s Indigenous experiences. The video, Where Nations Meet, premiered at the 2023 IITC and snippets were produced for social media so Ottawa Tourism could continue to support Indigenous tourism in the region.
