Video Storytelling for the Good—IABC World Conference

An interview and video production scene with one speaker and three technicians at the Canadian Museum of History

Spruce colleague Nina Jane Drystek is presenting a breakout session on video storytelling at the IABC World Conference in Vancouver. As manager of digital communications, Nina leads production of video projects at Spruce. She will discuss the importance of applying a care-centred approached to communications, particularly when developing campaigns for associations and non-profits working in human development and Indigenous priorities.

At Spruce, we focus on first-person storytelling because it offers an opportunity to connect authentically with your audience. But to find the story that resonates, you need to meaningfully connect with the people at the heart of your project. Nina will outline what a care-centred approach means and how it creates impactful stories and strong audience connections. Participants will get a chance to see how first-person storytelling can be used to create brand videos, educational videos and inspirational videos. The session will feature video projects Spruce produced for Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak, Bruyère Health and Operation Lifesaver and highlight lessons we learned along the way.

While at the conference, Nina looks forward to connecting with communicators from across Canada and around the world. She is particularly interested in the panels about allyship and empathy in communications taking place at the conference:

The IABC World Conference 2025 takes place from June 8-11 in Vancouver. Registered attendees can attend Nina’s session from 3:30-4 p.m. on June 10. Read the full synopsis of Care, Connect, Create: Video Storytelling for the Good.
